The Provost of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST), Professor Dadson Awunyo-Vitor, has urged newly admitted students to develop their skills, nurture their talents and uphold integrity.
He was speaking at the college’s orientation programme for the 2026/2027 academic year, which introduced students to university life, academic expectations and institutional regulations.
“Once you manage to enter, you need to do your best to ensure that you develop your skills and talents and, above all, your substance and attitude, while safeguarding your integrity, which is very important,” he said.
Professor Awunyo-Vitor said a lack of integrity could undermine professional prospects, even among people with valuable skills.
He urged students to balance social activities with academic responsibilities and explore learning opportunities beyond their programmes.
“At the end of the four years, I’m expecting to see a better person than us who have come here. Don't only look into the programme you are doing. Explore other programmes and take courses from other faculties and departments,” he added.

The college’s Deputy Registrar, Charles Asamoah Boateng, outlined the university’s administrative systems and codes of conduct. He urged students to familiarise themselves with institutional regulations and exercise discipline throughout their studies.
Boateng said the orientation aimed to help students settle into the university community and make informed decisions.
The programme included presentations from the University Information Technology Services, the Examinations Office, the Accounts Office and the Library.
Deans, heads of departments and other senior members of the college also attended.
